Maintenance Mode: Your Holiday Season Game Plan
Let's be honest: the stretch from Thanksgiving to New Year's isn't built for personal records.
Work deadlines pile up. The calendar fills with parties, travel, and family. The pie is right there.
And that's okay. Because the goal for the next six weeks isn't progress.
The goal is to hold the line — so you walk into January already ahead.
The Lie: "I'll just start fresh in January."
We hear it every year. It sounds reasonable. It feels like a plan.
But "starting fresh" usually means six weeks of nothing, then a January sprint that burns out by Valentine's Day.
Here's the thing: it is way easier to keep a habit going than to restart one from zero. Maintenance isn't settling. It's the smartest move you can make this time of year.
The Minimum Effective Week
Forget the perfect routine. Through the holidays, aim for the minimum that keeps you moving forward:
Two strength sessions. Even 30 minutes counts. Keep the big lifts, drop the extras.
A daily walk. 15–20 minutes. After a big meal is a great time.
Protein at every meal. It keeps you full, protects your muscle, and makes the cookie tray less tempting.
Sleep as a priority, not an afterthought. Late nights add up fast this time of year.
Hit those four most weeks and you've won the season. Anything extra is a bonus.
Party Season Playbook
You don't need to skip the fun. Just walk in with a plan:
Don't show up starving. Eat a normal, protein-forward meal earlier in the day.
Pick your favorites. Load up on the dishes you actually love. Skip the ones you're eating just because they're there.
One plate, then pause. Give it 15 minutes before going back for seconds.
Alternate drinks with water. Your sleep (and tomorrow's workout) will thank you.
Move the morning after. A walk or quick session resets the mindset — no punishment workouts needed.
One big meal doesn't undo your progress. What matters is what you do most of the time.
Real Talk
January You is counting on December You.
Not to be perfect. Just to keep showing up — even at half speed.
So enjoy the food. Enjoy the people. And keep your minimum effective week on the calendar.
